The scientific name for sage comes from the Latin word "salvare" which means "to heal."
Sage essential oil is extracted via steam distillation of the plant's flowering tops and leaves. The oil has a strong, bittersweet, and sensual scent.
It acts as a muscle relaxant and can soothe sore muscles, muscle tension, and back pain when used in massage oil. It is ideal for use in a bath before bedtime, as the oil can have calming effects.
Historically, it has also been used to address various women's health issues, such as menstrual irregularities and pain, low estrogen levels, and hot flashes.
USES

SKIN / BODY
For a pain-relieving oil to treat muscle aches or menstrual cramps, mix 4–5 drops of sage oil into 10 ml of carrier oil. Massage the oil directly onto the lower abdomen or sore muscles for relief.
SHOWER / STEAM
Place 4–6 drops on the floor of the shower stall and pour hot water over them.
BATH
Mix 5–8 drops with 10 ml of carrier oil, milk, or honey (this helps the oil blend with the water rather than floating on the surface). Add this to warm bathwater to relieve tension. INHALATION

DIFFUSER
