About Propolis

Historically, propolis has been regarded as one of the oldest forms of natural medicine. Today, we know that propolis has a highly complex chemical structure, primarily consisting of antioxidants. It is said that Aristotle was the first to define the term "Propolis" in his writings.

Propolis is typically a reddish or dark brown aromatic, resinous substance created exclusively by honeybees. To produce propolis, bees search for various plant materials such as resin, essential oils, and wax. They then add their enzymes and transform it into propolis for their own use. Intuitively, bees sense the presence of bacteria and apply propolis wherever isolation and protection are needed in the hive. Humans have used propolis for various ailments for over 2,000 years, but its effects were first scientifically studied in 1907 in Germany. Researchers discovered that propolis has an extremely complex structure of antioxidants and various bioactive plant compounds. Since then, numerous studies have been conducted to further knowledge about propolis and its antibiotic, antiviral, and even antifungal properties. Propolis is a popular natural remedy worldwide due to its remarkable soothing, protective, and antioxidant properties.
